Support Endangered Tribal Language: Earn an Ojibwe Language Certificate with the Little Shell Tribal Language Program

Ojibwe/Chippewa Language Teachers Wanted!

Are you interested in learning Ojibwe/Chippewa and teaching it in Montana?

The Little Shell Tribal Language Program is offering an opportunity to Little Shell Tribal members, other enrolled tribal members, as well as non-tribal individuals who will commit to enrolling and successfully completing the two-semester program which is offered completely online to earn an Ojibwe Language Certificate from Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC) in North Dakota.  This opportunity runs from the Fall 2024 through the Spring 2025 semesters.

Defined in the Administrative Rules of Montana 10.57.436, the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana asserts that the Ojibwe Language Certificate Offered by TMCC is appropriate to satisfy Class 7 licensure for the Ojibwe/Chippewa language and culture Montana educators, and the Little Shell tribe will validate and sanction those who have attained the Ojibwe Language Certification for the Class 7 licensure via program completion at TMCC.

Through the Little Shell Tribe’s Montana Indigenous Language Program (MILP) grant award, the cost of all tuition, fees, and course materials will be covered.  In addition, successful completers of the program may qualify for a $1,000 monthly stipend for the nine months of the program from the Little Shell tribe.

If interested, please click on this link to complete and submit your application before May 15, 2024 in order to be considered for this opportunity.
